The current Premier Leauge season is only pushing Everton further down the points table. On the back of a quite active summer transfer window, the Toffees were supposed give the Premier League biggies a run for their money but the results have been pretty contrasting for them.
The Merseyside club have failed massively to deal with the current shut down at the club. They are hovering around the relegation zone and it would be very shambolic if they finish in the bottom three.
One of the reasons behind their downfall has been their defensive performances. To make the matters worse, they were put to the sword at the St Mary’s, where Southampton embarrassed them, scoring four goals at the weekend.
Michael Keane was brought in the summer in a bid to stabilise the defence but the English international hasn’t managed to put things into places. The man who should be blamed for all the messed up things is Ashley Williams. The Wales international has been awful this season and is a shadow of the player that he is used to be.
The 33-year-old did little to impress this season as he has been in the middle of most things going wrong at the club. Age has definitely caught up to him and given his form, he should try to explore some new challenge.
Celtic are in the market for a new defender and Williams would be a nice fit for Brendan Rodgers’ side. The Scottish side have already made a thumping start to the season but it is quite evident that a defender is going to arrive at the Celtic Park.
Rodgers knows the player very well during their time from Swansea City and would be more than delighted in welcoming him to Glasgow. Since leaving the Liverpool job the gaffer is having a gala time as he won the “Invincibles” Scottish Premiership last season.
Everton chairman Farhad Moshiri already injected new funds to the side in the summer but he is likely to sanction a new funding in the January transfer window and bringing a top defender would be his priority.
So eventually William would be surplus to the requirement so it would be ideal for him to move to Scotland which is less competitive and would allow him the chance to flourish. Although Celtic are yet to make an offer for the player, he could turn out to be a superstar in Scotland.
But is he the right man for Celtic?
