The season is going from bad to worse for Merseyside club Everton, who fell to an embarrassing defeat in their Europa League group stage tie on Thursday. Having sacked Ronald Koeman, the Toffees were expected to find some consistency under David Unsworth but the caretaker manager has not been as helpful as they would have wanted.
It is interesting to note that the club’s owners decided to show Koeman the door without a proper replacement lined up and that is surely haunting the club now. Unsworth is an honest manager, who can help Everton out of this slump but at the moment, he is not getting enough help from the players and another change in the management might not be too far away.
With a few winnable fixtures ahead, the Blues will want to take a decision quickly and at the moment, Burnley man Sean Dyche seems their best choice.
Speaking to the media recently, the English manager revealed felt that it was amusing that he is still been linked with a move to the Merseyside. Reports from the Echo claim that Everton have placed the Burnley man on a short-list of managers who can take over the club in the future.
Dyche previously spoke about being flattered by the rumour but the 46-year old made it clear that there is no official contact from the Merseyside outfit yet. So should Everton go all in for Dyche?
Currently helping Burnley stand in the 7th place in the top flight points table in England, Dyche has been at Turf Moor since 2012 and has helped them see over two promotions, also winning the Championship in the 2015-16 season.
He was named the manager of the month four times in that season in the Championship and also helped the Clarets retain their place in the top-flight, finishing six points above the drop zone last season.
With a limited budget and no star names, the 46-year old has time and again stunned some of the biggest teams in the competition with his side’s discipline and attitude and this has attracted some of the biggest clubs like Arsenal, who surely have him as one of many candidates to replace Arsene Wenger at the Emirates.
Everton have the money to spend on managers and are desperate for Marco Silva, but are unable to land him. However, Dyche might just be a better option than the Watford man as he can start a legacy at the club, that can solve most problems currently prevailing at the club.
At the moment, the Toffees are struggling to stitch anything together and the owners should not waste any more time, and ‘start banging on Sean Dyche door’ right about now, in Jamie Carragher’s words.
Do you think Dyche is the right man for Everton?
