David Moyes might not have the start he had hoped at the London Stadium but West Ham have a decent squad to turn their season around. The former Everton manager has been tasked with a difficult job as he has the responsibility to steer the side safe from the relegation zone.
Slaven Bilic was shown the door and Moyes was recalled to the Premier League. Although the Scottish manager failed to keep Sunderland in the top tier last time the Hammers hierarchy must have immense faith in his credibility, which landed him the job.
Moyes has been given the freedom to ponder with his squad and he is likely to demand a few players as expected. This has seen West Ham linked with Odion Ighalo. The former Watford striker is currently plying his trade in the Chinese Super League with Changchun Yanai and is believed to be on a very healthy wage which is to the tune of £190,000.
But reports have emerged the striker is staging a comeback to the Premier League and West Ham are very keen in the striker. Moyes is desperate to add options on the attacking front and might express his interest once the transfer window opens.
Watford accumulated a pretty hefty fee as they received a massive £20m when the Chinese club came calling in January this year. Both Andy Carroll and Javier Hernandez haven’t had a good time as the Hammers striking duo hasn’t lived up to the hype and rumours are also mongering Moyes could be ready to part way with Carroll as he is trying to make some room for new players.
Ighalo spent three years at the Vicarage Road and even was a part of their promotional campaign. But his form had taken a hit and Watford decided to cash in on him. However, things could change and the Nigerian international could be ready for his second stint in the Premier League.
West Ham are currently languishing in the relegation zone and the Hammers cannot afford to make any mistakes. Moyes is ready to reshape the side according to his need a number of players could get the sack. One thing which could create a problem is Ighalo’s wage demand. The forward is earning a pretty fat pay package at his current club and might demand a similar pay package to switch his allegiance.
It would be a big call for the Hammers as the east London side are desperate to make a statement in the remainder of the season. Can Ighalo lend a hand in it?
