West Ham United are lining up a move for Bologna midfielder, Simone Verdi. The Hammers have been closely keeping track of his progress and are reported to be interested in securing his services despite the change of manager.
However, recent reports in Tuttosport have claimed that David Moyes will now have to deal with competition from Italy with Serie A giants Inter Milan also said to be scouting the 25-year-old. The Italian forward has impressed the San Siro giants with his performances for Bologna this season and the Milan club are thinking about making a move for him in January.
Inter Milan are currently second in the Serie A table, just two points off league leaders Napoli. If the Black and Blues of Milan can manage to secure the services of Verdi when the transfer window reopens in January, they will definitely be more optimistic about their chances of beating Napoli and winning the league this season.
West Ham United will also be desperate to add to their attack with strikers Andy Carroll and Javier Hernandez failing to live up to the expectations of the Hammers faithful. The North London club have slumped to 18th place in the Premier League standings and are now in real danger of being relegated. If they can land a creative, goalscoring midfielder as talented as Simone Verdi in January to partner with Manuel Lanzini in the middle of the park, it will definitely give them a massive boost going into the second half of the campaign.
The former AC Milan winger has scored four goals and made four assists in his 15 appearances for Bologna this season. The right-sided attacker joined Bologna from AC Milan in the summer of 2016 and has since been in scintillating form for the La Rossa. He has also earned two international caps for the Italian National team.
West Ham United have just scored 12 goals in 14 league games so far and can definitely do with some injection of quality in the midfield. However, they might be in for some disappointment as reports earlier this month claimed that the Italian winger is set to stay put in the January transfer window. The agent of the Italian international Donato Orgnoni has played down speculation and stated that he does not believe that the player will be switching clubs in January.
When asked about his client’s future in an interview with Romanews.eu (translated by insidefutbol.com), Orgnoni said: “I don’t think anything will happen in the winter market. Officially we have not received any offers or have been contacted, even by Inter. The player is happy where he is at the moment.”
It remains to be seen whether it is a ploy to drive up more interest in the player or if Simone Verdi is really committed to Bologna’s cause this season. All will be revealed in January.
