Amidst heavy rumours linking him with the vacant position of Everton, Marco Silva welcomed David Moyes’s West Ham United at the Vicarage to give the hammers a familiar taste of defeat. Watford’s rigid display and goals from Hughes and Richarlison were enough to get three points on the road. Here’s how the Hornets have been rated after an excellent victory:-
GK: Huerelho Gomes – 8/10
He was simply brilliant today. Made two major saves to keep West Ham at bay. Saved from a very close range to deny Arnautovic and closed down Kouyate before that to make a huge save. Clean-sheet is massive.
RWB: Kiko Femenia – 6/10
The outcome was a bit dismal at times but he also enjoyed a lot of space on the right today. Needs to improve but there were positives in abundance.
CB: Adrian Mariappa – 6/10
Tidy and simple. Played an equal role in maintaining the organization effectively.
CB: Christian Kabalese – 7/10
Made his presence felt in the area of Carroll and battled well to keep a firm grip.
CB: Miguel Britos – 6.5/10
Did the same as Kabalese and played a good part in moving with the ball as well.
LWB: Marvin Zeegelar – 7/10
It didn’t look like Watford missed Holebas at all. He got forward with some dazzling runs at times and made Arnautovic work. The Austrian got the better of him at times but it wasn’t dangerous as such.
CM: Tom Cleverly – 6/10
Moved around the ball with accuracy and gelled well with Hughes.
CM: Abdoulaye Doucoure – 7/10
Some of the runs he makes are breathtaking. His work ethic is admirable as well and he was on top form today in the midfield.
CM: Will Hughes – 8.5/10
He was everywhere today and all the things he did were right. He was alert to get into the box and finish early on to give the Hornets the lead and he provided the assist for Richarlison’s goal as well. Positive signs for Watford ahead surely.
FW: Richarlison – 8/10
He was a constant nuisance for Zabaleta and he got a sublime goal giving both Reid and Hart no chance. He’s proved to be a fabulous signing and these are the instances which justify it.
ST: Andre Gray – 7/10
Fared well against the West Ham defence aerially and showed his strength but he couldn’t really involve himself as the visitors were set up well.
