Watford are currently playing far better than expected in the Premier League this season and have already got themselves four wins in their first ten matches so far. However, back to back defeats in their last two games saw them slip to the eighth place in the league table, as the Hornets now eye redemption in their forthcoming matches.
Under the stewardship of their new manager Marco Silva, the Hornets have dished out a number of eye-catching performances this season so far, including their memorable wins against Arsenal and a hard-fought draw in their very first match of the season against Liverpool.
However, they are currently looking to add some more players to their side, especially to their strike force. Though they already have two top-class strikers in the form of Englishman Troy Deeney and compatriot Andre Gray, the Hornets are looking to bring in another striker to flare up the frontline.
Among a number of players eyed by Watford, the Algerian striker Islam Slimani is supposed to be in the pole position to be recruited in the near future. The 29-year-old is currently plying his trade at Leicester City and is expected to force a move out of the club, having been used in a bits and pieces role since his arrival at the King’s Power Stadium in the last term.
The Algerian ace has been bogged down under the shadow of Leicester’s prime weapon and inspirational striker Jamie Vardy, who led them to the shocking triumph in the Premier League in the 2015/16 season and the Japanese international Shinji Okazaki. This has reportedly made Slimani disappointed and at the same time worried about his future with the former champions and he is eyeing a new club where he can get more chances to get onto the pitch.
Slimani, who was the leading man in the attack for his former club Sporting Lisbon, has only made 38 appearances so far for the Foxes, most of which have been as a substitute. However, he has made the most of those limited number of opportunities and has already notched up 12 goals to show for his efforts.
This has reportedly interested the Hornets, who are not in the mood to let go of the advantage they currently have in the Premier League given their brilliant performance since of the start of the season. Their Spanish gaffer is confident that the inclusion of the 29-year-old might give their side the much-needed firepower to gun down their opponents and end the season on a high note.
