This season has been full of surprises but Watford’s brilliant display has been the talk of the town. The Hornets have kept themselves pretty much in the hunt for a place in the top eight but following three consecutive losses they have fallen a bit behind.
If reports are to be believed, Watford are in the final stages of signing goalkeeper Pontus Dahlberg. The Swedish goalkeeper has emerged as a surprise interest for the Hornets.
The IFK Goteborg shot-stopper has been shot to fame with his encouraging display in the goal and now has been linked with a move to Vicarage Road. He could be sold for a record fee and the amount could cross the £3.5m mark.
Marco Silva has been in a desperate search for an alternative for Heurelho Gomes and the teenage keeper has apparently appeared out as a potential solution. Although if he does come, he is unlikely to be used extensively in the Premier League and would have to come through the academy set up first.
Reports are suggesting that the Hornets have made an offer and an agreement could be reached in coming days. Watford roped in Daniel Bachmann from Stoke City but he is yet to play a match this season while Orestis Karnezis is scheduled to be back to Udinese once his loan stint expires.
So the need for a shot-stopper has become the primary thing for the Hornets. The teenage Swedish keeper would bring some freshness to the side. A number of Premier League clubs including Everton are also lining up a bid for the player.
Everton splurged £30m to bring Jordan Pickford but the Toffees currently have the fourth worst defensive record which must be a concern for them. Sunderland are also looking to fill in the void vacated by the departure of Pickford and have been hovering around the keeper.
Gomes has been the preferred choice for Marco Silva this season but the veteran keeper has passed his prime and will be turning 37 in February next year. Silva has inspired the club to play positive football and they have been pretty brilliant on the road so far.
But this keeping department has been causing concerns as Gomes looked a bit rusty in the last couple of games and Silva wants improvement on this part. The upcoming January is going to be crucial for Watford as they are looking to consolidate a place in the top seven in a bid to have an adventure in the European soil in the next season.
