Tottenham Hotspur have the knack of nurturing young talents as gaffer Mauricio Pochettino has built a whole new system at the club and likes to work with the youngsters. A number of players have got the promotion to the senior set-up like Harry Winks and they have been having a fruitful time under the tutelage of the Argentine manager.
According to reports, Tottenham are taking a very keen interest in Athletic Bilbao youngster Gorka Guruzeta. The 21-year-old has taken Spanish football by storm with his impressive skills and a number of clubs are looking to secure the signing of the player.
Bilbao U23s are scheduled to play Manchester United and a number of clubs including Tottenham representatives are expected to be present to have a brief look at the player.
The 21-year-old will be available for free in the next summer as he hasn’t renewed his contract yet. But Bilbao is entitled to a compensation fee, which could be meagre, given the amount of talent they are letting off their hook.
Guruzeta is mainly a striker but can also chip in with useful contribution when he is deployed on the flanks. Bilbao is very strict when it comes to recruiting players as they only allow players with Basque roots to be a part of their club and if they do part ways with the talented youngster, it would be very difficult to find a suitable alternative.
Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is also an avid admirer of the player and might be interested in the player. Tottenham already signed Juan Foyth in the summer transfer window to enhance their academy and the Bilbao striker could follow his path.
Fernando Llorente is regarded as an Athletic Bilbao legend as the Spanish striker is a very popular name at the club. However, Spurs are unlikely to use his connection to tempt the forward to North London.
Having played 14 times for the Bilbao reserve side, Guruzeta has found the net six times this season. A natural scorer, he could be a real success story on the English soil. Barring Harry Kane and Llorente, currently, there are no other options in the forward department and Pochettino needs to do a bit refurbishment in this section.
Chelsea and Arsenal are also keeping an eye on the player could come up with an offer once the transfer window opens. Spurs need to act pretty fast otherwise they might lose the opportunity to rope in one of the most talented young players.
