Danny Rose was left out of the Tottenham Hotspur side that faced Arsenal last weekend and the England international was left “fuming” after his exclusion. The defender has already raised his concerns about not getting enough game-time quite a number of times before but not being part of the prestigious London derby last week might have been the final straw that broke the camel’s back, that is his Tottenham career, as he now looks to ponder on his options in January.
Ahead of their clash against West Bromwich Albion, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pocchetino said that he ‘doesn’t care’ whether any of his players are upset for being excluded from the Spurs squad. His comments have left Danny Rose with little doubt as to who calls the shots at the North London club. There are now major doubts about whether Danny Rose can continue his career at Spurs with first-team chances being limited so far this season.
In the pre-match press conference ahead of the West Brom game, the Spurs boss said,
“[Rose’s remarks] surprised me because all players are upset when they are not involved. They are not happy. If you saw the faces of the ones on the bench and the two who are out of the squad on matchday . . . if you had a camera on their faces, it would scare you. It surprised me to create a problem like this when there wasn’t one. But for me, I am happy that he was angry. If he is angry it means he wanted to play. But in the same way, I don’t care. Because it is my decision and I need to take the best decision for the team.”
It is evident from the manager’s comments that he cares about the team more than any individual player at the club. However, his comments have thrown major doubts over Danny Rose’s future in the North London club.
When asked about Danny Rose’s future at Spurs, the manager added, “I think that it’s not the moment to talk about Danny Rose’s future. All players have contracts with us, all are involved in the project and you cannot guess what is going to happen. You know that in football it is a different part of the business; you need to negotiate, you need to look for another side. It’s important to arrive at the moment and take the best decision.”
The 27-year-old has only played 81 minutes for Tottenham this season. With a role in the England National team up for grabs at next year’s FIFA World Cup, the Tottenham defender will be looking for first-team football.
All signs point towards his departure in January. It remains to be seen which Premier League clubs show an interest in securing the services of the talented left-back.
