Mousa Dembele, Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, Moussa Sissoko, Eric Dier, Victor Wanyama, Harry Winks. What do the above mentioned players have in common? All seven of them are Tottenham Hotspur players, yes but more importantly they have all played in the centre midfield position for the club at one point or another. While Dembele, Sissoko, Wanyama and Winks are the four regular choices for the two available positions there, Spurs also have Dier, Alli and Eriksen who can all play there as makeshift midfielders.
This would mean that with such an abundance of talent not only in the form of youth and experience but also guile and steel, Spurs can boast of having one of the best collection of players in the middle of the park.
Hence it is now a little surprising that Tottenham are being linked with Galatasaray’s midfielder Papa Alioune Ndiaye. Tottenham are said to be keeping an eye on the 27-year old and will look to bring him should the scouts not report anything negative from the match he played against Trabzonspor.
The Senegalese made his name while playing for Osmanlispor. He scored 17 goals in 61 games despite playing as a deep-lying midfielder. His impressive performances made him a hot property around the European market this summer but it was Turkish giants Galatasaray who ended up with the signature of the 27-year old.
A £6.6m move was completed and Ndiaye coming off a seven goal season had a lot of interest going on around him this time around. Leicester City, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United all sent in their scouts on Sunday to watch the Senegalese in action against Trabzonspor.
The midfielder is yet to hit top gear this season and has so far failed to find the back of the net. His Sunday performance was however, not his best outing by any margin as the player ended up on the losing side of a 2-1 result and capped up complications by getting sent off.
However, the energetic midfielder who can run from box to box and has an impressive stamina and athletic qualities maybe well suited for the Premier League. At 27, he is unlikely to cost a fortune and Galatasaray may agree to complete a quick profit on the player.
As for Tottenham Hotspur, the only way they can see another midfielder coming in is if their midfield boss Mousa Dembele decides to move on, something Spurs should be wary of given the Belgian is already 30 years of age and has often complained about not enjoying the fact that he has to play on with recurring injuries.
