Mauricio Pochettino’s hunger for winning games has reflected in Tottenham Hotspur’s way of playing football. It’s been a delight to watch them as the Argentine gaffer has invoked an attacking mentality among the players and they have now become one of the prime forces in the Premier League.
Their growing stature has seen a number of coveted players plying their trade for the North London club and in future too they are expected to attract big names.
According to reports, Tottenham might revive their interest in Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes. The 24-year-old’s playing time has been substantially reduced following the arrival of Paulinho and he has fallen in the pecking order.
When the player arrived at the Nou Camp in the summer of 2016, there was much hope from him to justify his price tag but the player has failed to live up to the hype and now it seems Barcelona hierarchy have become tired about his lack of form in the middle of the pitch.
Spurs came very close on the deadline day as they almost sealed a loan deal for the Portuguese international but the deal failed to materialise and the midfielder remained at the Nou Camp.
There are no second thoughts over Gomes’ talent and on a number of occasions, he did show some encouraging signs. However, as a whole, he is yet to produce a performance which will justify his big-money move.
The Catalans are willing to negotiate a deal for the midfielder in January in a bid to fund the move of Philippe Coutinho. It goes without saying the Spanish giants would make an audacious attempt to lure the Brazilian playmaker to the Spanish club and they need to make room for the playmaker.
Currently, the central midfield options are pretty encouraging at the North London club. Harry Wink’s emergence has helped Pochettino in building his side around youngsters while Mousa Dembele is also there to help the gaffer in the middle of the pitch.
So Gomes is likely to fight for his place in the starting lineup. Regular football would help him in claiming a place in the Portugal World Cup squad so Barcelona’s growing frustration might lead the player to land on English soil.
If Pochettino remains keen in the player, he needs to be hot on the heels to add the player to his squad in the near future, as a number of clubs are expected to lining up for his signature.
