North London club Tottenham Hotspur has been in the ascendancy for the last few years with their stocks skyrocketing since the arrival of Argentine manager Mauricio Pochettino. Pochettino’s stint has taken the club to a whole new level. He has transformed the club into genuine title contenders in England while at the same time making them a threatening prospect in Europe as well. He has given them the confidence to take on the hotshots of Europe as was demonstrated in their 3-1 humbling of Real Madrid.
Pochettino’s spell has seen Tottenham produce some truly remarkable youngsters. The Argentine tactician has assembled a side full of energetic, young players that can take the North London side to great heights should they decide to stay in the club for the long-term. There are the likes of Harry Kane, and Harry Winks who have come through the club’s youth academy. While Winks is on the rise and is relatively untested, Kane has turned into one of the most ferocious strikers in the English league.
Then there are the likes of Dele Alli, Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez who the club brought in. These young players were untested in the big waters and the club’s decision to gamble on these men paid off spectacularly. Dele Alli at the age of 21 is one of the hottest prospects in Europe and everyone is well aware of the interest shown in Dier by Manchester United in the summer.
With Pochettino’s speciality being able to harness young talent, it will now be a tempting opportunity for Manuel Lanzini of West Ham United should Tottenham come calling. The Argentine signed for West Ham in the summer of 2014. He was initially brought in on loan from UAE club Al Jazira before the Hammers inked his permanent transfer for a reported amount of £9.4 million.
He has impressed fans and pundits alike in his tenure at England and even with West Ham suffering a slump in their form this season, the Argentine has been a rare bright spark for them. The playmaker saw a bid for him rejected over the summer when Everton came calling for the Hammers man in the summer. However, it looks like things are now about to spice up in London with West Ham’s local rivals Tottenham reportedly chasing the signature of the Argentine.
Pochettino is said to be a keen follower of Lanzini’s game and wants to bring in the playmaker. His contract at West Ham runs till 2020 but in the modern game, if a player does demand a transfer, it is difficult for the club to keep him against his wishes; something West Ham are aware of after the Payet situation.
