Jose Mourinho might have just started his Manchester United reign but the club hierarchy has already started to find his potential successor. One of the most high profile managers of all time Mourinho took over the charge from Louis van Gaal in a bid to restore the status of the Premier League biggies.
It has been reported that an alternative is being eyed in case Mourinho won’t let his contract run down and according to reports, Marco Silva has emerged as a strong candidate to be handed the charge at the Old Trafford.
With 18 months remaining on Mourinho’s contract, it seems the club are in a bit hurry to sum things up. But looking at the current circumstances they might be right.
The former Chelsea manager heaped praises on Paris Saint Germain in an interview last month and even termed their project as ‘Special’ which might have triggered panic among the club.
Silva took over the reign at KCOM Stadium amidst the turbulent atmosphere at Hull City. Despite Hull’s demotion Silva appeared to have won a lot of hearts and as a result, he has been appointed by Watford at the start of this season.
It has been a dream run for the Hornets this season. Their strong start to the season has gone down very well with the club and if things remain same they could achieve their best ever finish in the Premier League.
Somewhere down the line, the ‘Special One’ is losing his Midas touch day by day and it could be an awkward situation if he doesn’t manage to win anything at the season end. His number one competitor Pep Guardiola has managed to give Manchester City a brilliant manoeuvre and they are a delight to watch.
Mourinho is particularly frustrated with the summer transfer window as he failed to bring Ivan Perisic following a long-standing negotiation between Inter Milan and United.
Mourinho made it pretty clear he needed the Croatian winger to push his side a bit up in the attacking section but Ed Woodward failed to create his magic leaving Mourinho in a bit of uncertainty.
Silva doesn’t have the experience of managing any big club and it could be a big gamble for the club to repeat the feat they did by hiring David Moyes at the Old Trafford.
However, as of now, Mourinho remains the manager of Manchester United and his concentration should be on the pitch not on his contract.
