It seems Antoine Griezmann’s future lies away from Atletico Madrid. The French superstar has been the subject of speculation and has attracted interest from a number of clubs. Manchester United came very close to him in the summer as the Red Devils tried their best in securing a move for the forward.
But Atleti’s strong defiance foiled their chance and the French international went on to commit his future by agreeing to a new contract, which also extended his release clause to a mammoth €200m. But this hasn’t stopped clubs from engaging themselves in the pursuit of the player.
In a major blow to Manchester United, Barcelona reportedly have reached an agreement in principle for the 26-year-old. Griezmann was supposed to be the marquee signing for the English outfit as Jose Mourinho has been aiming to give Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City a run for their money for the rest of the season.
Barcelona are ready to break the bank for the French player and are ready to offer the player a lucrative term, which is believed to be in the range of €20 million per year.
If he does arrive at the Nou Camp, Manchester United might have to renew their search for an alternate option. Following are the three players who might arrive at the Old Trafford in near future.
Gareth Bale
Manchester United have been looking for more firepower on the flanks and who could be better than Gareth Bale. The Welsh wizard has had his issues with injuries but if he manages to cut short his injury terms, he could be a really effective option.
Bale has been linked with a move back to England as Manchester United are very keen on the player and with Griezmann seemingly out of their grasp, they might revive their interest in January.
Alexis Sanchez
Alexis Sanchez has been the backbone of Arsenal since he arrived in North London but the last few months have been pretty hectic for both the player and clubs as repeated talks have failed over the possibility of a new contract.
The Chilean superstar’s contract is scheduled to expire at the end of this season and he is unlikely to renew his terms so it could be a realistic chance for the Red Devils. But it remains to be seen whether Arsene Wenger repeats the same mistake he did by selling Robin Van Persie to United.
Thomas Lemar
A younger alternative for Griezmann. Thomas Lemar has created ripples in the last season with his brilliant display in the Ligue 1 with Monaco and he could be a sensible addition to the Manchester United lineup in place of Antoine Griezmann.
