Real Madrid’s bad run of form continues after they succumbed to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Tottenham at Wembley. They looked far from their best and were overrun by Tottenham’s pace and energy. A consolation goal came in the form of Cristiano Ronaldo’s close-range effort past Hugo Lloris. Zinedine Zidane and his men have a lot of work to do if they want to turn things around immediately. Here are the player ratings for Real Madrid.
Kiko Casilla (5):
Could have done better to avoid Tottenham’s first by being a little more decisive in getting ahead of Dele Alli. Apart from that, the Spaniard could do nothing to prevent the other 2 goals.
Achraf Hakimi (5):
Offensively he looked good in the first half and almost created a goal for Ronaldo. Looked far from convincing defensively.
Sergio Ramos (6):
Was constantly put under pressure by Harry Kane. Was never given the space to breathe for much of the game. Unfortunate to see his block end up giving a 2-0 lead for Spurs upon Alli’s attempt.
Nacho (5):
Similar to Ramos, he was constantly troubled by the frontrunners of Tottenham. Could have been in a better position to stop Trippier’s cross that led to Spurs’ opener.
Marcelo (6):
Ran up and down the field constantly. Tried his best to aid Madrid’s attack but to no good effect. His forward bursts made him defensively vulnerable on many instances.
Toni Kroos (5):
Did well in the initial stages of the game when Madrid had a good spell of possession. His usual game faded away as the game progressed as his range of passing became very limited. Should have done better at delivering set pieces.
Casemiro (4):
Was caught of position on numerous occasions and as a result, just could not handle Tottenham’s pace and energy in the middle of the park. His defensive frailties resulted in Alli’s second.
Luka Modrić (6.5):
Hardly lost possession of the ball as his passing was pint point. But most of the passes were sideways and couldn’t find the defence-splitting pass to the path of the Real Madrid strikers.
Isco (5):
His form seems to have worn out recently. Was the least effective Madrid attacker on the pitch having started up front with Ronaldo and Benzema
Karim Benzema (5):
Missed a glorious opportunity in the first half after he failed to convert from Ronaldo’s cross. A disappointing afternoon for the Frenchman.
Cristiano Ronaldo (8):
He was Tottenham’s only threat in front of goal. Was left frustrated by the lack of service from his teammates. Eventually ended up scoring a consolation goal for his efforts.
SUBS:
Marco Asensio (6):
Could offer very little coming on for Benzema in the 73rd minute. Spurs were already out of sight.
Borja Mayoral (6):
Did well to set up an opportunity for Ronaldo but apart from that, had very little impact.
Theo Hernandez (6):
Had very little to do, being brought on for the last 10 minutes place of Modrić.
