Following an awful month of October, Borussia Dortmund’s run is getting from bad to worse, as the Black and Yellows tasted an embarrassing defeat at the hands of VfB Stuttgart on the weekend. However, Peter Bosz’s troops will be eager to break free from their bad luck as they host English giants Tottenham Hotspur at the Signal Iduna Park this midweek. The Ruhr giants are known to be quite strong on their home turf, and the fans will definitely feel that they have a real chance of salvaging a great win against the collective unit of Mauricio Pochettino on Tuesday.
Borussia Dortmund hardly have any chance of getting through to the knockout rounds but a win or even draw will help them seize the third place and the opportunity to play in the Europa League in the second half of the season. It will also act as a morale booster for them for sure.
Here’s the predicted Dortmund lineup to face Tottenham this midweek.
Defence
Roman Burki will stand in between the sticks for Borussia Dortmund. The Swiss International has had a pretty rough season so far, but a good performance against Spurs will give him huge confidence for the remainder of the season.
Experienced defender Lukasz Piszczek still remains on the sidelines due to an injury, meaning Jeremy Toljan will once again have to start as the right back for Dortmund, while Marcel Schmelzer starts on the left.
The central defensive pairing will consist of Marc Bartra and Omer Toprak. Greek International Sokratis is doubtful for the clash, much to Bartra’s delight after he was forced to play in an unusual right back position for the past few matches.
Midfield
It will be interesting to see who starts in midfield for the Black and Yellows. Nuri Sahin was absolutely horrible in the last match against Spurs, which might tempt Bosz to go with Julian Weigl for this game.
Mario Gotze, on the other hand, has been one of the bright sparks in these dire times for BVB. He will accompany Shinji Kagawa and Julian Weigl in the Dortmund midfield.
Attack
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was left out of the squad against Stuttgart due to disciplinary reasons. The Gabonese International will be back this midweek, leading the line for Borussia Dortmund.
Maximilian Philipp could be given start against Tottenham following his impressive performances in recent games. The former Freiburg man will start on the wings along with Christian Pulisic.
