Islam Slimani’s future at Leicester City has been in utter disarray of late. The record signing forward hasn’t been able to earn the trust of his manager as he has been repeatedly ignored this season. He was signed for a big amount from Sporting Lisbon but has failed to back up the move with substantial performances.
Leicester are on the brink of a fresh start as Claude Puel has just taken the charge at the King Power Stadium. The French gaffer just had a brief account of the team in the last game against Stoke City and Slimani’s future is depending on his feedback.
The Algerian forward has been linked with a move to Rennes. The French side are starving for goals and want to take the player to France in a bid to improve their goal scoring record. The Foxes have a pretty envious lineup of attackers and any offer for the Algerian forward should match their demand as they would like to recoup their investment.
Slimani’s departure would certainly open the gate for a new arrival and let us take a look at the possible arrivals.
Dwight Gayle
The Newcastle United forward has seen his game time reduced as Rafa Benitez has mostly depended on Joselu. Benitez has been pretty keen for a striker in January and should he manage to bring a prolific hit man, he might be interested in letting the player leave St James Park.
Gayle was one of the main reasons behind their promotional activities last season but the Spanish gaffer doesn’t seem to prefer the player as he has mostly used Joselu up front.
Gayle has been one of the quirkiest forwards and he can chip in with useful goals. Leicester already have Jamie Vardy and Kelechi Iheanacho who are likely to be the focal point so Gayle could be a very good backup option.
Salomon Rondon
The lanky forward has started just six matches this season as Jay Rodriguez has been the preferred choice upfront. The Venezuelan international has a very muscular presence in the box and also his aerial ability could be of much help for the Foxes.
Saido Berahino
The 24-year-old hasn’t had the season he would have hoped for as he has started in just two matches so far for Stoke City. Berahino does have the intent and hunger to accomplish his targets in the Premier League but he needs a perfect platform and King Power Stadium could provide that momentum.
