The career of Conor Coady has already been through a lot. Just 24 years of age now, the Englishman has been in the limelight for quite some time. He regularly played for England in their youth ranks and first came into the limelight back in 2010 when he captained the under 17 England side to their European Championships. Coady and his national side came in the limelight when they won the 2010 UEFA European U-17 Football Championship in Liechtenstein, their first victory in an international tournament in 17 years.
In terms of club career, Coady had spent his early years at Liverpool after graduating from their youth academy. He stayed with the club from 2012 to 2014 but only made one senior appearance for them after making the bench on a few occasions.
In order to seek more game time, he went out on loan to Sheffield United for a season. Despite being a defensive midfielder, he scored 6 times and supplying 4 assists for the Blades in 50 appearances for them. After his loan move ended, he switched from Liverpool from Huddersfield Town. He only spent a single season at the club, making 48 appearances for the club while scoring 3 goals and setting up 3 more.
In the beginning of the 2015-16 season, he signed for Wolverhampton Wanderers for a £2m fee on a five-year contract. He is now not only the club captain for the Wolves but has also a new position where he plays. Generally, a centre holding midfielder, he has been converted by Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Sancho to a part of a three-man back line with Coady deployed on the right.
He has been in impressive form this season and the former Liverpool man who recently penned a long-term contract at Molineux is now valued at £7 million. It is being reported that West Bromwich Albion and Newcastle are tracking the Wolves defender and a move in the next window may be a possibility.
Rafael Benitez has been left frustrated at being unable to make the necessary changes needed to deal with the task of surviving the Premier League. The Spaniard has been vocal about the fact that Newcastle United need new players. After a very impressive season in the Championships that saw Newcastle return to the Premier League, Benitez demanded more signings of Premier League standard to establish the club in England’s premier competition. However, with Newcastle unable to sell their existing crop of players, Newcastle has had to deal with a stagnant squad.
After three straight defeats, it does look a signing of Coady’s stature could add a little more character and steel to the Magpies defence.
