The FIFA U-17 World Cup, recently held in India, ended last Saturday where England scripted a sensational comeback despite conceding twice early in the game and registered a title-winning 5-2 triumph against Spain at Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata. Liverpool youngster Rhian Brewster scored 8 goals for the Three Lions and received the Golden Boot award.
His goal-poaching traits earned loads of applauds and the English sensation was highly appreciated by Jurgen Klopp. The Reds boss is waiting for his return and wants to monitor his progress closely with club’s U23s in PL2 where they are currently occupying the top of the table spot.
Liverpool, however, are reportedly impressed with another U17 star from this World Cup competition and sent scouts to watch the teenager play.
Mexican starlet Diego Lainez had a stellar show against Brewster’s England during a group stage encounter where his side were down by three goals but staged a late comeback as Lainez scored twice late in the game and England defence was in absolute shambles against his pace, power and majestic skills. Although he could not overturn the three-goal deficit and the game eventually ended in a 3-2 win for the Three Lions, the Mexican prodigy was highly appreciated for his gifted attributes.

Mexico had a pretty average outing and were knocked out from the Round Of 16 by Iran. But Lainez looked highly impressive and was the only spark in an ordinary side. The left-footed winger mostly operates from the left-hand flank but also capable of playing on the opposite wing as well as in an attacking midfield role.

Klopp has reiterated his desire to construct a formidable youth setup and wants to strengthen club’s several Academy ranks in order to foster talents who he believes will enrich the senior side once they break into the first-team football. Lainez, although playing at the senior level right now back in his hometown, should give it up for the time being if he wishes to be groomed at one of Europe’s finest clubs of all time and flourish under Jurgen Klopp who is hailed for nurturing young talents.
The teenager is regarded as the next-gen superstar of Mexican football and already being monitored by top European outfits. Lainez made it to the list of The Guardian’s 60 best young talents in world football and also featured in Goal.com’s 2017 NxGn list of world’s best teenage footballers. This high-profile youngster is being considered as the next big thing and Liverpool must not miss out the opportunity to bring him in with a view of adding more quality to their youth setup who are doing reasonably well and progressing through the ranks.
