Manchester United edged past Brighton & Hove Albion what was another shoddy display from the home side. An Ashley Young deflected effort brought home the three points and Jose Mourinho has to do some brush up before the much important Arsenal match next weekend.
Manchester City will have the chance regain their eight points lead but as of now, The Red Devils are five points adrift of the league leaders.
Manchester United Player ratings
David De Gea- 6
Brighton players hardy bothered him as he had another good day in the office. Kept another clean sheet.
Victor Lindelof-7
The Swedish defender really has grown up in the last few days as he gave another matured performance in the heart of defence. Glenn Murray was trying to outbid him a number of times but he dealt with the threat well denying any wrongdoings.
Chris Smalling- 7
Probably a wakeup call for Gareth Southgate. Smalling made his stand his very clear with another clear and crisp defending which will definitely give Southgate a selection headache.
Antonio Valencia-4.5
Didn’t really understand what his job was on the pitch. Barely looked threatening what he usually does and caught on the wrong foot a number of times. Not a great performance.
Ashley Young- 7.5
Has been a rage this season and his continuous efforts on the left flank was clearly evident. The goal was a result of that as his shot got deflected of Lewis Dunk as United ran away with three points.
Nemanja Matic- 5.5
The big Serbian was not at his best as he had a few nervy moments on the field. Should have been more careful.
Paul Pogba- 6
The French international provided the thrust and drive to push his side forward. His industrious move distributed passes all over the pitch and had a number of exciting moments in the Brighton attacking third.
Juan Mata- 4.5
Wasted another opportunity to turn up the heat. The Spaniard was given a run in his favourite no. 10 position but hardly effective. Was eventually subbed off.
Anthony Martial- 6
Was the most impactful among the front three. The French youngster tried hard to get it going Brighton backline was very aware of his capability and kept him at their toes.
Marcus Rashford- 6
Simply it was not his day but looked promising.
Romelu Lukaku- 5
He needs a bit time off from the field.
Substitutes
Zlatan Ibrahimovic- 6
Had his chance which could have been a glorious chance to mark his presence.
