Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are reportedly interested in Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford. Manchester United’s young sensation has broken into the big stage in the most dramatic fashion. He has scored on every possible debut he made for the club and his keen eye for goal has seen him develop into a fine first-team player.
Add to that, his dribbling skills and raw pace, Rashford looks like the complete product and the England international, who just turned 20, has a wonderfully promising career ahead of him. He has already scored 7 goals and set up 3 this season.
Rashford is most dangerous when he has the ball at his feet and teammates rallying around him. Different managerial patterns in the existing game would then logically think that the best place for Rashford right now would be Etihad where a certain Pep Guardiola is deploying another masterclass of attacking display to try and win the league title.
Guardiola, known for his attacking prowess as a manager and the habit of playing teams who can hold on to the ball for weeks at a time, would be a perfect mentor for young Rashford to realize his true potential and turn on his best game for the world to see. However, even though a move to Manchester City, as is being reported, is on the cards for Marcus Rashford and a chance to flourish under Pep’s tutelage may seem tempting, he would be wise to decline the offer.
The reason is that at Manchester City, the main problem would be the case of too many cooks. City already has an array of attackers and it would be almost impossible for them to draft another world-class player into their squad without adding an extra bench for their substitutes.
Rashford is finally getting regular time at Manchester United and it would be a step down for the player at this stage of his career to move to any team where he would have to share his time on the pitch no matter what the club is, especially when he is already at one of the biggest clubs in the world.
For United as well, the move would be an absolute no-go simply because they cannot let go of Rashford, irrespective of whoever and whatever they are offered. The young Englishman is exactly the kind of player that gets the crowd at Old Trafford on their feet.
The Red Devils should not negotiate with any club approaching them for their sensational young star and they would do well to tie him down to a solid contract before many like Pep Guardiola come prying for Rashford; a memory United fans are not fond of especially, since the last time a promising world beater was taken away from them it was none other than five-time player of the year Cristiano Ronaldo.
Moreover, it is highly unbelievable that Jose Mourinho would ever allow one of his best players to switch clubs to join arch-rivals City. So will this move ever happen?
