Arsenal will be the most likely destination for Lyon playmaker Nabil Fekir, according to reports. The creative midfielder has played an influential part in Lyon’s campaign this season scoring 12 goals in 15 games and is now being linked with a move to the Emirates. The 24-year old has always been seen as a potential to watch out for. His cruciate ligament injury slowed down his progress but he has put his injury in the past and wants to play “beautiful” football.
Fekir, has been linked with big clubs around Europe for a long time now. Back in 2015, Fekir’s name was doing the round in the rumour mill and his father came out and said that the player had great ambition and wanted to win trophies and play Champions League football with Lyon.
However, when quizzed about Fekir’s future, his father was very specific in rejecting Manchester City, by stating that his son will not go to Etihad to warm up the benches. Instead, Fekir’s father said his son’s interest lay only in North London club Arsenal, as they were the only club who could help him progress, with Arsene Wenger at the helm.
Fekir has ruled himself out of a possible move to French giants PSG, suggesting that Lyon is the only club he will play for and if he were to move, it would be to England or Spain, and to a club where they focus on playing beautiful football rather than duelling for the ball. With Alexandre Lacazette moving to the Emirates this summer and enjoying a bright start to his Arsenal career, the French forward could be pivotal in further biasing matters for Fekir if he were to come to England.
Landing someone of Fekir’s potential would be a tempting offer for Wenger. Arsenal are set to lose two of their most prized assets by the end of this season. Alexis Sanchez has shown no interest in renewing his contract which expires at the end of this season.
After his move to Manchester City failed in the summer, the Chilean has cut a frustrated figure at the Emirates and it seems Arsenal are destined to losing him. The second player whose future has been thrown up in doubt is Mesut Ozil. The German playmaker who turns 30 next season has entered his final year of his contract and is yet to sign an extension.
Ozil has often been criticized for his lazy attitude and with the player now refusing to commit his future to Arsenal, the Gunners would be smart to bring in a replacement for the German. Fekir would be a perfect player to take up the German’s place in the team and unlike Ozil, Fekir also finds the net often, something Arsenal fans would not mind seeing.
