Leicester City are keeping a keen eye on West Brom loanee, Ahmed Hegazi but might face strong competition from Liverpool. ESPN FC sources have confirmed that the Foxes are considering making a bid for the Egyptian international. The on-loan defender has been a regular in the Baggies’ starting eleven since joining from El-Ahly of Cairo in the summer and has made a good start to his Premier League career by putting in some Man of the Match displays. Leicester City’s Head of Recruitment Eduardo Macia has worked with Hegazi before in Fiorentina, where he was the technical director and some reports have claimed the Foxes are monitoring the Egyptian and are ready to battle it out for his signature.
West Brom are in pole position to snap him up as they have the option to turn the loan-deal into a permanent transfer if the Baggies agree to pay €5m to Al-Ahly in the summer. However, with Liverpool also interested in the defender, it might lead to a three-way battle between the Premier League clubs.
After failing to settle down at Fiorentina, the 26-year-old centre-back rose to prominence at El-Ahly Cairo and has gone on to make 56 appearances for the club where he scored two goals and made one assist. His incredible talent was spotted by West Brom and he was snapped up on a season-long loan deal during the summer transfer window.
The Egyptian has performed quite well since making his Premier League debut against Bournemouth when he scored the only goal of the game with a header. His man of the match display in that game gave him a lot of confidence and now, the defender is developing into a reliable Premier League player for the Baggies.
Ahmad Hegazi has three major honours to his name. He has been an Egyptian champion two times and has also won the Egyptian Super Cup. The former Ismaily defender also has 42 international caps to his name.
In 2011, Hegazi made his international debut in an away game versus Sierra Leone. At the time, he was just 20 years and 7 months old. The West Brom loanee has gone on to be a regular presence in the Egyptian national football team since then.
Leicester City has struggled defensively so far this season. The Foxes have conceded 20 goals in 13 Premier League matches and are in need to add some quality to their lacklustre defence. Ahmad Hegazi can be the perfect fit for the Foxes but only if the West Midlands club can convince his parent club to sell him to them. It remains to be seen where Hegazi ends up with all three potential options firmly ready to fight for his signature.
