Championship outfit, Leeds United, have completed the signing of the highly-rated starlet, Ryan Edmondson, from York City for an undisclosed fee. Edmondson has put pen to paper on a deal that would keep him at Elland Road until the summer of 2020. The York Press had reported about Middlesbrough’s interest to sign the starlet, owing to his dazzling calibre. But now that it has become official, it would be safe to underline that the Whites did win the race to sign him.
The Yorkshire-based outfit, after a bright start to their campaign under the stewardship of Thomas Christiansen, seem to have lost the momentum. Leeds United have lost all of their last three games in the English second, which comprises of their defeat at the hands of Brentford, Derby County and Sheffield United.
As a result of their recent dip in productivity, Christiansen’s side are currently placed at the 10th spot in the league table with 23 points to their name after 16 encounters.
Handing a playoff spot must be something Christiansen has been strictly ordered to do by the board. Leeds United went very close to securing the coveted spot last season when Garry Monk was at the helm, but their shambolic form during the business end of the season hindered their chances of promotion.
The side succumbed like a house of cards and their dramatic collapse ensured that they were kept out of the contention of securing the uplift to the Premier League.
Lately, the Peacocks have been vouching far and wide for blossoming youngsters and seeing them sign a local talent in the shape of Edmondson implies that they are keeping a close eye on local talents too.
The 16-year-old was handed his first-team debut by York City last month, featuring in his former employer’s 2-1 home win against Brackley. He has impressed during his time on the pitch, making steady development and his move to his boyhood club is a massive upward step in his career.
A striker by trade, Edmondson link up with Under 18 and Under 23 sides of Leeds United and has to impress with them before he gets a nod to represent the senior squad. Although signing someone like Edmondson is unarguably a good initiative to build the ladder for clinching success in future, Leeds United do need to do enhance the quality of their squad by bringing proven names in the January transfer window to bolster their chances of promotion.
