Manchester United are looking in good form this season and have won a series of matches in the Premier League to strengthen their position at the second spot in the league table. However, the Red Devils have recently looked out of touch and lost their last match against the reigning champions Chelsea, which has left their manager Jose Mourinho in contention regarding the team composition.
The 13-time Premier League champions found themselves in dire straits, especially in the middle of the pitch in the last couple of matches. They are currently unable to avail the services of two of their best midfielders this season in the form of Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini out of the side with injuries.
This has clearly generated a sense of urgency in the Manchester United camp and has compelled them to look for newer options to fill the gap left behind by the two injured players. The Red Devils are eyeing a number of players and might look to add a few of them to their side in the near future.
Out of the players, the name of the Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman is right on the top of the target list for Manchester United. The 27-year-old is currently playing for the Italian giants Roma and is the pinnacle of their midfield beside the likes of Danielle De Rossi and Radja Nainggolan.
Strootman is known for his immense physicality, added to his ability to keep lion’s share of the ball possession, announcing his ominous presence in the middle of the pitch for Roma. The player has made 98 appearances for the club and has established himself as a key figure in the squad.
A number of clubs are interested in bagging the player in the near future, including Manchester United, who are in dire need of a top-class midfielder in their squad. The inclusion of the Dutchman can perfectly serve their purpose but it will not be easy for the Manchester club to get a hand on their desired target.
The player is set to stay back at the Italian outfit for some more time, with his current contract running till 2022. However, this has not been able to diminish the interest of the Red Devils in the 27-year-old player and they might table a bid for the player in the near future, with a view to stabilize their midfield and add more muscle to it. Jose Mourinho is quite fond of the hard-working nature of Strootman and might go in for him in January.
