Leicester City wrote themselves a fairy tale that grasped the attention of the entire world in the 2015-16 season. From being threatened by relegation in the 2014-15 season, Ranieri’s side began the journey to an incredible come back. It saw them fight off relegation in the 2014-15 season and follow it up with an incredible title win the next season as the world watched on.
Winning the Premier League changed the club overnight. They had become one of the English sides to represent the country in Europe, they were linked with big-name signings and most importantly they were being referred to as defending champions. Amidst such joy and splendour at the club, it seemed nothing could go wrong. Things became even better when Leicester’s title win actually gave them the power to pull off signings from all over the world with players interested in joining the “English Champions”.
One such signing was Ahmed Musa. The Nigerian centre-forward, signed from CSKA Moscow, came for a fee reported to be around £16m. He had impressed largely in his time in Russia and scored an impressive 54 goals and set up another 29 in 168 outings for the club.
Musa’s arrival was seen as a much-needed buy for Leicester who were then preparing for an assault on domestic and European competitions and badly needed a backup forward to their prime weapon, Jamie Vardy.
It has been almost a year and a half since Musa arrived and things are very different from what it was back then. The club finished 12th in the title defence campaign, the worst defence to the title in the last two decades and are now again stuck at 12th position in the league this season after eleven game weeks.
Musa has not been able to deliver what he was brought in for and the Nigerian has made only 33 appearances for the club, scoring a paltry five goals so far. It is this loss of form that has seen Musa failing to secure a first team spot as the striker has been left short on confidence, leading to the demise of his career at the club.
It is now being reported that Championship side Hull City are keen on the Nigerian centre-forward. Hull City are currently struggling in the Championship and stand at the 20th position after 16 game weeks. Hull would be looking to offer the Nigerian a chance at redemption and Musa will have to make up his mind if the Tigers come calling.
On one side, he would be taking a step down by demoting himself to the Championship from the Premier League but on the other hand, he would be giving his career a fresh boost by going to a club where he can be a regular starter again.
