Everton managed to steal all three points this weekend against Watford and though that win may have lifted the spirits at the club, they are still a long way from making this season, even remotely a decent one.
Owner Farhad Moshiri sanctioned the sacking of Ronald Koeman following the 5-2 loss against Arsenal but since then, the Toffees have been linked with a number of manager with the latest being Guus Hiddink.
The Former Chelsea manager is currently busy with the North Korean football team as a director of development. The club hierarchy is likely to hand the job to a much-experienced manager and the Dutch international could be a decent option.
The 70-year-old had faced a similar situation at Chelsea and came out with flying colours as he stabilized the situation at Stamford Bridge not so long ago. The Blues had to seek his service following the departure of Jose Mourinho back in 2015 and the manager did his part with utter perfection.
Various names have been hovering for this lucrative post with the likes of Sean Dyche and Sam Allardyce. Even interim manager Unsworth is also believed to be in the reckoning more so, after the result against Watford. The U32s manager is well heralded at the club, especially after he guided the Toffees to the Premier League 2 title last season.
Hiddink ha a very illustrious CV as he has managed the likes of Fenerbahce, Valencia, Real Madrid, Real Betis and had also handled the Netherland’s national football team. The Merseyside club are expected to hand out a small term contract to Hiddink till the end of this season as they would be determined not to repeat the mistake they did at the time of Koeman.
They certainly have the resources to turn things around but need the proper guidance and who could be better than the 70-year-old? Hiddink is well acquainted with the pros and cons of the Premier League and thus he needs no introduction.
He did remarkably well during his two stopgap spells with Chelsea and this could be a new test for him. The primary concern at this time is to avoid relegation, which is looking pretty imminent at this moment but the Merseyside club need a springboard to get on and Hiddink can definitely emulate his Chelsea success here.
With the international break giving them some time, Everton will hope to decide on a name before the start of the season. But is Guus Hiddink that name?
