Chelsea’s current form has been of great help for them as the Blues are back in the title contention. Antonio Conte’s side blew up the advantage with some shoddy display earlier but now they are back in business with a four-match winning run.
However, Conte seems to be still not satisfied with the squad he accumulated and some big names could be seen at the Stamford Bridge in January. One such name is that of the Leicester City Ace Riyad Mahrez, who is being linked with the defending Champions.
The Algerian winger had been the transfer target for a number of clubs in summer but stayed at back at Leicester City and seems to be pretty happy with the current situation. But Chelsea are ready to unsettle him with a worthy offer in January.
Mahrez was ready to set himself away to any side who would match Leicester’s £50m price tag but no club offered that much money compelling the winger staying at the club beyond his wish.
Leicester’s downfall had probably kept him aloof, as he had wanted to leave the club for a more exciting challenge. The likes of Barcelona did come with an offer but the Foxes were adamant in their stand.
But with time their preference must have changed and they are likely to listen to offers from interested parties. Mahrez has been in good form of late and since Claude Puel took the charge at the King Power Stadium, he seemed to have gained his lost touch.
The French manager used him more centrally to the attack which saw his contribution going up more efficiently. Predominantly a right winger, he would offer a whole lot new things to Conte who does have a good attacking contingent at his disposal.
The likes of Pedro and Willian have been quite inconsistent and an offer for Mahrez makes sense. But the Algerian wouldn’t be expecting to play week in week out and he would rather be guaranteed of Champions League football, which has been his dream.
Manchester City are also interested in the player as Pep Guardiola has been on the lookout for more quality players in the attacking department.
Leicester would be very hard to tempt but Demaray Gray’s emergence could be a boon in disguise for Mahrez. If Gray hadn’t been there it would have been much difficult to shake up a move for Mahrez but with Gray almost playing regularly, Leicester might be interested in taking some cash in for Mahrez.
