Luke Shaw’s Manchester United future has been cast in doubt as the left-back has been left out of the starting lineup throughout the season in the Premier League.
Shaw’s United career got a major setback following his horrific leg injury against PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Champions League and since then he has been stuck at the Old Trafford where his future seems to be in a tumultuous situation.
According to reports, Chelsea are ready to offer Luke Shaw an escape route as they are considering a bid for the English youngster. Shaw has struggled for game time and if the situation persists, he might have to look elsewhere if he is to revive his career.
Since arriving from Southampton back in 2014, the defender has failed to establish himself as the preferred choice and this season it has been the worst as Ashley Young has emerged ahead of him in the pecking order which also earned the 32-year-old an England call-up.
Shaw has had a number of fallouts with Jose Mourinho and currently, they are not on talking terms. The Portuguese manager doesn’t have many natural options on the left side of the defence but his strong insistence not to include Shaw in his plans has cleared his mindset and this could be his last season at the Old Trafford.
United triggered the one-year extension clause in his contract which extended his stay till 2019. Shaw’s contract was supposed to expire this summer but his new contract would be able to fetch them a handsome fee as United would be able to recoup his massive £30m transfer fee (or atleast a part of it) they paid the Saints for his service.
Mourinho has been eyeing a number of new recruitments in January but he has been told by the club hierarchy that he must sell players before indulging in buying and Shaw could face the axe.
Chelsea are currently found a little wanting in the left back section as barring Marcos Alonso, Antonio Conte doesn’t have adequate cover and Shaw would hand him a lifeline. A move in January could also bring back Shaw in the contention for a place in the World Cup squad.
Arsenal and Manchester City are also keeping a track on the movement of the player and might divulge their interest in the player if a suitable opportunity comes. As of now, as things stand, Shaw is unlikely to stay at the club beyond January with Chelsea being his likely destination.
