Chelsea have joined Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to bring in Watford’s Brazilian ace Richarlison. The 20-year old attacking player moved to the Hornets this summer from Fluminense for a fee recorded to be £13 million. He was tipped for a summer move ever since the market opened and had been linked with various clubs like Palmeiras and Dutch side Ajax.
However, it was the Hornets who ended up winning the signature of the player as he joined Watford on a five year contract. He enjoyed an impressive spell with the Brazilian club Fluminense since joining them in 2015. He scored 19 goals in 67 games for the Brazilian outfit while also getting up called up for the Brazilian under 20 national set up where he scored two goals in eight games.
Richarlison has enjoyed a bright start to the Premier League, scoring five goals and setting up three assists in his thirteen games at the club. Watford has been playing some good football this season and has enjoyed a good start to their new season. Richarlison has been the focal point of attack for them all throughout.
His dazzling skill on the ball makes him an incredibly hard dribbler to tackle off the ball. He also possesses great speed to not only survive but thrive in the fast-paced English league. Hence, it is no surprise that his every top club in England is now coming for him.
Chelsea’s failure in the summer transfer window means that the club is lacking depth in the squad. The club would hope to add new players for Antonio Conte by bringing in Richarlison.
Chelsea currently have Pedro, Hazard, Willian and young Charly Musonda as the wingers in the senior team. While Hazard is untouchable in the team the same cannot be said for the rest of the three options. Musonda is very clearly a back-up option opted for by Conte due to lack of summer signings.
The case for Pedro and Willian is that both players are highly inconsistent. While Pedro still battles for every ball and puts in an effort to make something happen whenever he is on the pitch, Willian simply has forgotten the basics of football. The Brazilian does not release the ball soon enough and cannot be counted as a first team starter by any margin given his current standard of play.
This might prompt Richarlison to move to the west London club where he is likely to get a lot more game time than he would in Tottenham or Arsenal. His move to Chelsea will bring in some much-needed creativity to The Pensioners.
