Celtic forward Moussa Dembele bagged 32 goals in his first season in Scotland, which helped Celtic swoop the domestic treble. Despite struggling with injuries this term he still has seven goals in fourteen games for the Hoops. He has scored a massive 39 goals in just 63 games for the club already and has become their first team hitman above Griffiths. The 21-year-old Frenchman is tipped to become one of the deadliest finishers in Europe and has been linked with a great number of clubs, including many in the Premier League.
He was the one to score the solo goal in the midweek against Paris Saint Germain, in a match, which the Hoops went on to lose by 7-1. It is now being reported that Chelsea, who have been previously linked with Dembele, is still keeping tabs on the player.
Conte, who started the season with Michy Batshuyai and Loic Remy as his first-team strikers, needed severe reinforcements. His feud with Diego Costa saw the player lose his spot in the Chelsea dressing room and Costa’s national teammate Alvaro Morata was brought in for a club record fee to fill in the gap.
However, Remy has gone way down the pecking order since Conte’s arrival and Batshuayi has failed to impress the Italian boss so far despite scoring 7 goals this season, including a winner at the new Estadio Wanda Metropolitano against Atletico Madrid.
Since Morata suffered a hamstring injury in the 35th minute against Manchester City, he has failed to replicate his initial form and Conte is desperately short on strikers. Although Spaniard is recovering ground again, he will definitely need a back-up and a good one at that if the Blues want to be competitive on all four fronts this season and in the future.
Conte wants to use the January window to bring in some reinforcements. The Italian tactician would love to see Dembele as an ideal back up to Alvaro and with the Frenchman also able to operate alongside Morata, Conte might decide to use him alongside the Spaniard with Hazard in behind in a top 3 should Dembele continue his goalscoring exploits of Celtic at West London.
As was the case with Romelu Lukaku, Manchester United is ready to rival Chelsea in the chase for Dembele. This would mean that a bidding war would ensue and thereby Dembele’s price tag would soar very high. Naturally, Celtic are set to make an incredible profit on Dembele, having only paid a compensation fee of £500,000 to Fulham in 2016 if the Frenchman does decide to move to England.
