It has been more of a mixed season so far for Liverpool, who are currently placed in the fifth position in the league table. The Reds are looking for a revival in the near future and back to back wins over Huddersfield Town and West Ham United might be an indication of that.
The Merseyside club have a number of top-class attackers who have shown their mettle so far this season and have scored a total of 21 goals among them. However, the same cannot be said for their backline as there is profound lack of quality in their defence, which has been detrimental for their progress this term in the Premier League as well as the Champions League.
This has compelled the gaffer, Jurgen Klopp, to look for newer options to be added to the side in the near future and he has his eyes on a number of players to stabilise his backline. The name on the top of the list is that of the Scottish defender Kieran Tierney, who is making ripples with his ominous presence in the defence for the Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.
The 20-year-old is considered to be one of the key figures for the Hoops and has played a very important part as a left back in their squad since his arrival in 2015. The player has earned rave reviews from a number of experts from all over Europe and has also attracted the attention of a number of clubs including the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Liverpool has not been able to settle on a player to perform well in the position of left back for their side since the last term. Their first choice full-back Alberto Moreno’s performance not being satisfactory, the gaffer Jurgen Klopp brought in midfielder James Milner to play in his place and he did a commendable job as a makeshift left-back.
The German mastermind added a new defender to the squad in the form of Andrew Robertson in the summer transfer window but he has not been able to fare well with the ways of English top flight football. This has made Klopp look for a top class option and he looks interested in adding the young Scott to his side in the near future.
However, the inclusion of Tierney might not be easy for the Reds as they will be facing resistance from his current possessors Celtic, who have a contract running with the Scottish international till 2023.
