Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara has recently dropped a hint of him possibly making a return to Barcelona in nigh future, as per reports from Daily Star.
The Spanish midfielder, favoured by Pep Guardiola, followed the footsteps of his former coach, by opting to move to Bayern in 2013, after initially rising through the youth ranks of FC Barcelona.
Thiago is now regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world, and surely the best in the Bundesliga. The former Barcelona man declined to offer to join Manchester City last summer, a decision that was paid off at the end, as he evolved into more of a transition player under Carlo Ancelotti, eventually helping him improve his overall game.
Following a disappointing start to the season, where they were trailing Borussia Dortmund by a massive five-point deficit, the Bavarians have managed to bounce again under new coach Jupp Heynckes. And it’s rather needless to say that Thiago has been a vital part of their success and it was totally evident in their win against Dortmund, last week.
Thiago had a massive role in Bayern’s pressing game as well as their progression through to the final third. The German record champions expertly used the positional skills of their midfielders and attackers to evade the fierce pressing line of Dortmund. Thiago’s clever movements kept the opposing midfielders occupied. He even dropped in between Bayern’s defence and midfield line to destabilize the pressing lanes for Dortmund players.
His passing and ball circulation has improved a lot in recent years, along with his defensive skills and positional sense, which eventually helped the talented midfielder grow more matured in his gameplay.
Make no mistake, Thiago Alcantara is one of the very few gifted players in the world, who can play down the role of a transitional midfielder quite expertly. Not only does he have the right amount of composure but also has the talent to manipulate the pressing schemes of his opposition.
Thiago’s presence in the midfield has helped Bayern picking their oppositions apart for the past few years. Considering the fact that the club is unhappy with the performances of Arturo Vidal, the departure of Thiago would be a massive blow for the Bavarians.
The 26-year-old is still tied to a contract with Bayern until 2021, meaning it would cost a fortune to secure the services of the highly talented Bayern midfielder. But more importantly, it’s highly doubtful whether or not the club will be willing to let him go.
