Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly admitted that he wishes to have a new striking partner at the Santiago Bernabeu. The Portuguese icon, widely regarded as one of the best players football has ever seen, moved to Madrid back in 2009. Real Madrid forked out a fortune back then for him to lure him away from Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United by making the most expensive player in the world.
He has since gone on to win the best player of the year on five occasions and become the club’s all-time leading goal scorer in the process. His eight-year stay at Madrid has seen him become an icon at the Bernabeu and Ronaldo’s goal-scoring feat has helped Real Madrid win every possible trophy available in club competition.
Ronaldo, who turned 32 this year, is slowly entering the final phase of his career and is now demanding a top quality striker next to him.
Real Madrid let go of Alvaro Morata in the summer. The Galacticos now have Karim Benzema, who is on the wrong side of 30, an ageing Cristiano Ronaldo and young Borja Mayoral as the only options to play up front. This has left Zidane looking for new players up front. In their midfield, they have top quality players like Marco Asensio, Isco, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Casemiro and Mateo Kovacic who can play through the centre or as attacking inverted wingers.
Real Madrid are now the defending La Liga Champions, current and two times defending UEFA Champions league and are on the verge of a Club World Cup win. Despite the club reaching such great heights, everything is not quite well at the Bernabeu. They have failed to turn up this season with their forwards out injured or misfiring.
This has led to reports believing that Real Madrid are chasing Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich. What is even more surprising with the report is that Ronaldo who had previously asked Real Madrid to chase attackers is furious with Real’s chase of Robert Lewandowski.
It is being reported that Lewandowski considers a move to the Bernabeu a dream move and the Polish captain, who has played most of his club football in Germany, is ready to move abroad to Spain and is willing to take a pay cut to make the deal go through.
Lewandowski first came into the limelight under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund where he became a fearsome striker. His development continued as Bayern Munich poached him up and he helped the Bundesliga giants land several trophies.
Should the Spanish giants be able to land the Polish forward, it would definitely solve their mini-crisis at the top with Benzema badly off form and Ronaldo unable to repeat his La Liga heroics this season.
But at his age, is he the right man for Real?
