Bayern Munich continues their impressive spell under new coach Jupp Heynckes as they register a massive 3:1 win over rivals Borussia Dortmund. Even though they conceded their first goal in the Bundesliga, under Heynckes’ fourth spell at the club, the Bavarians were faultless in their approach to beat BVB.
Goals from Arjen Robben, Robert Lewandowski, and David Alaba perfectly set the tone for an easy evening for the German record champions before Marc Bartra scored an amazing consolation right at the end.
Here are the Bayern Munich players rated in their win over Dortmund.
Sven Ulreich (9/10): Was a complete beast in between the sticks as he denied the Dortmund attackers from scoring many times throughout the game. Ulreich has been doing really well of late as he looks to fill the shoes of Manuel Neuer.
Joshua Kimmich (7.5/10): Surprisingly started the game, despite being ruled out initially. Kimmich was not exactly solid as he had a fair bit of troubles dealing with the impressive Christian Pulisic on the right flank.
Niklas Sule (9/10): Was absolutely amazing in mopping up long balls or intervene critical passes into the final third. Sule was the best defender for Bayern on the night.
Mats Hummels (8/10): Showed his true talents by constantly trying to pick Dortmund apart with some sharp long balls. Didn’t have any trouble dealing with the Dortmund attackers either.
David Alaba (9/10): Hardly game Andriy Yarmolenko any chance of breaching the Bayern defensive line on the left flank as he remained calm and composed for the entirety of the game. His goal in the second half was well deserved.
Javi Martinez (8/10): Worked behind the scenes, as the Spaniard made some important interceptions, tackles, and clearances which helped Bayern stay clear of Dortmund’s attacking threat.
Thiago Alcantara (8.5/10): Ruled the midfield with some excellent ball circulation. Thiago hardly ever lost the ball and also played a crucial part in Bayern’s pressing game.
Arjen Robben (7.5/10): Even though the Dutchman didn’t manage to make a large impact in the game, his opener was enough to unsettle the Dortmund defence, which helped Bayern pick them apart later on.
James Rodriguez (8.5/10): Very industrious and menacing as always, James Rodriguez feels quite at home at Bayern it seems. The Colombian was very impressive in his link-up game as well as his vision and fluidity in the final third.
Kingsley Coman (8/10): His pace was the weapon-in-chief for Bayern Munich on the flanks. The young Frenchman made full use of the space whenever the Dortmund right-back attacked forward.
Robert Lewandowski (8/10): A hard-working effort from the former Dortmund superstar, who scored his seventh goal against his former club in as many matches. The Polish International looks to be in fine form at the moment.
Subs
Rafinha (NA): David Alaba’s knock late on in the game was a blow for Bayern, but Rafinha made sure that Bayern doesn’t miss the services of the Austria fullback.
Sebastian Rudy (NA): Replaced Javi Martinez for the final phase of the game as Jupp Heynckes planned to instil more assurance in possession.
Arturo Vidal (NA): Came on for James Rodriguez to add a more physical presence in the centre of the park.
