Arsenal are among a host of other clubs ready to send scouts to watch Athletic Bilbao’s promising youngster Gorka Guruzeta. The player aged 21 is representing Athletic Bilbao in the lower divisions of the Spanish League. He is in contention to face Manchester United under-23’s when the two clubs clash in the Premier League International Club.
Tottenham, Chelsea and Newcastle United are some of the big name clubs interested in securing the youngster’s service, whose contract terminates at the end of the season.
Gorka Guruzeta has been operating for a major part of the season as an attacking winger whilst providing his manager with the option to deploy him centrally when required. He comes with an abundance of pace and trickery. To go with that, he has an eye for a pass, which frees up space for his teammates.
Standing at over 6ft, his aerial domination is a great asset both while attacking and defending set pieces. His style resembles a lot of Eden Hazard. The Spaniard has 6 goals in 14 appearances whilst scoring the winner CD Victoria in a game that looked to be a stalemate.
Arsenal faces a huge crisis, having to deal with the potential departures of Sanchez and Ozil in January. The Spaniard’s arrival could just relieve Arsene Wenger some of the pressure of having to search for a replacement. Much like Sanchez he can be deployed out wide to the left and as a central striker when needed.
Fighting on all fronts this season, Wenger is entering the busiest period of the campaign. A deep squad is a need of the hour for Arsenal and Guruzeta could be a potential candidate to solve this crisis. Apart from Giroud, Arsenal’s lack of aerial prowess could well be addressed following Guruzeta’s move.
The deal will not come easy for the French boss as several other Premier League clubs are keen on him and one such being their London rivals Tottenham. Guruzeta, much like Llorente. moved from Basconia and entered Athletic Bilbao’s fray of things. Tottenham would be hoping his influence on the youngster could aid in fending off interests from other suitors.
The Lilywhites, who themselves are scarce on wingers, would be eyeing the Spaniard as a potential candidate. Arsenal will thus have to do their fair share of negotiating if they are determined to stage the winger at the Emirates.
Considering that Alex Iwobi would be the only left winger left for Wenger, the Spaniard would be a huge addition given that he also comes cheap for the Gunners.
