The transfer saga of Alexis Sanchez still continues, as the future of the Chilean Superstar firmly hangs in the balance. While he is definitely on his way out of the Emirates one way or another, Arsenal are planning out life without their offensive star.
Reports in earlier weeks suggested that Arsenal were willing to let go of their star player if an offer of £30m is put on the table, in the January transfer window. Until more recently, however, Arsene Wenger is reportedly wanting a player in exchange for Alexis Sanchez rather than a payout.
As StarSports understands, the Frenchman is keen on securing a swap deal with PSG for Julian Draxler in exchange for Alexis Sanchez in the upcoming winter window. But can it prove to be a smart move by Arsene Wenger?
In truth, this move makes a lot of sense considering the fact that Alexis Sanchez’s current contract with Arsenal expires at the end of this season, meaning he could go for absolutely free next summer. However, if they can get an instant replacement for the departing Sanchez this January, it will be no short of a game well played from the Arsenal board.
Julian Draxler has been a long-term target for the Gunners and is one of the few players who could potentially replace the Chilean superstar.
Draxler has been in great form this season, especially on the stage, as he led his team to a FIFA Confederations Cup triumph earlier this summer, whilst winning the Golden Boot award in the process for finishing with the joint most goals in the competition.
The 24-year-old is blessed with superb qualities on the ball, coupled with his sensational link up play. He also has the right amount of pace to leave the opposing defenders in his trail. Furthermore, Draxler has been evolved as a matured player than his former self. He can now get involved in the build-up play as well as track back to help the defence. He has also grown to be a much more versatile player too.
Even though the German International is currently at his most important stage of his career, the arrival of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe over the summer has significantly reduced the first team appearances for the former Schalke player.
Therefore, Arsenal seems like a logical destination for the former German prodigy. With the FIFA World Cup just around the corner, Draxler will be eager to secure more game time, as he hunts for a place in Germany’s WC squad next year.
