The Alexis Sanchez saga seems to have no end as another new story has spurned out long after the Transfer Window has closed. It is no secret that Arsenal have failed to tie down their prized asset to a new contract and Sanchez, come the end of the 2017-18 season, will reach the end of his contract and will be free to move on to any club of his choice as a free agent.
Despite the fear of losing such an asset on a free transfer, in a surprising turn of events, Wenger has chosen to not move the player on but to keep him for another season to help Arsenal win silverware.
A host of top European clubs have been linked with the Chilean winger, whose impressive form has made him a top target for them. The likes of Manchester City and Chelsea have been linked with him at one point or another during the summer. Sanchez was reportedly close to a deadline day move to domestic rivals Manchester City before Arsenal made a U-turn on the deal and chose to keep him instead.
It is now being reported that Sanchez might just consider not leaving the Emirates at all. While speaking to the media, Nacho Monreal seemed confident that Sanchez and Ozil, will not leave the club, as they have not spoken about anything of that sort yet with their teammates.
The defender said: “The feeling is that they will continue.
“At no time have we talked about the possibility of them leaving. Not at all. They are committed to the group and we will see what happens.
“I can’t say much about it. It does not depend on me.
“The situation is clear. They are two vital players for Arsenal. They are two players who end their contracts at the end of the season.
“If the club want them to stay beyond December [the January transfer window] they will follow.
“Yet, I do not know the club’s intentions. It is other people who are the ones who have to make a decision.”
Sanchez has been an integral part of the Arsenal lineup since his arrival from Barcelona in 2014. He has been their mainstay in the attacking third and has been looked up as one of the finest attackers to have adorned their ranks in the recent past.
If Sanchez does choose to stay back at Arsenal, it will not only be a huge boost to Arsenal who have been struggling in recent times but it will also be bad news for Arsenal’s direct rivals like Manchester City and Chelsea who have been chasing the player.
