Off the pitch, rumours are seemingly heating up as we move closer to the winter transfer window. And according to Italian news agency, Calciomercato, AC Milan are plotting a swoop for Chelsea winger Willian.
The Italian club spent over €200 million in the summer, which included eleven newcomers. However, the iconic old club has still struggled to live up to their expectation of landing in Champions League places. Currently dawdling in and around the Europa spots, the Rossoneri are in dire need of more reinforcements.
Chelsea’s Willian seems to have topped Milan’s list of transfer targets this winter. The Brazilian winger has been out of sorts under new boss Antonio Conte and as per latest reports, the former Anzhi attacker is surplus to the requirement of Chelsea’s Italian boss.
While the departure of Willian might seem like a slap in the face, considering how good he has seen since moving to the Premier League in 2013, the London giants do actually have a mighty plan.
The Blues are eyeing a move for PSG starlet Lucas Moura, and selling Willian is part of that huge plot from Antonio Conte’s side.
Willian has found life difficult under Conte, often being the second choice to either of Cesc Fabregas or even Victor Moses. The Brazilian winger was, in fact, shifted into more of a central role under the tutelage of the former Juventus boss, which had a huge impact on his overall productivity.
Even though he enjoyed his highest scoring season last term, the 29-year-old’s ability to create chances drastically took a downturn, as he managed only two assists in 34 games for the whole of last season.
And the winger is probably having his worst season yet this campaign, failing to score a goal in eleven matches whilst managing to total only 577 minutes of Premier League football. In order to gain his former rhythm, Willian definitely needs to switch clubs this winter, and Milan seems like a logical destination for the Brazilian International.
As for Chelsea, they should prioritize the job of luring the highly talented Lucas Moura to the Stamford this January. The Blues are currently seeking around £27million for Willian, which should be enough for the defending champions to fund a move for PSG’s attacking sensation in the upcoming winter transfer window.
So in hindsight, both the moves for these Brazilian attacking sensations might prove to be valuable for their respective clubs. While Willian could help Milan make a push for the Champions League places, Lucas Moura will definitely strengthen Chelsea’s attacking potency.
