Newcastle United travel to Old Trafford on Saturday with some key players injured. Their recent form has been poor, to say the least. The Magpies have secured just one win in the last six Premier League matches. Their last two matches have ended in defeats at the hands of Burnley and Bournemouth respectively.
Even history is not on the side of the Toon Army with Newcastle registering just four wins in the last 17 years against Manchester United. Rafael Benitez has quite a history against the Red Devils and Jose Mourinho so he will definitely be looking to cause an upset on Saturday.
4-2-3-1 Newcastle United Predicted Lineup To Face Manchester United
Defence
Rob Elliot should resume his services in goal for Newcastle United after he missed out on representing his country during the international break due to a family bereavement. But it is expected that there would be changes in the back four.
Jamaal Lascelles recently hobbled out against Bournemouth which would give Ciaran Clark another chance to impress. Lejeune will slot in as the other centre-half while Yedlin will start at right back.
Paul Dummett is also back in training and is in for a race against time to be fully fit for Saturday’s game. The Welsh international would represent a considerable upgrade over Javier Manquillo at left back. Dummett is a left-footed defender so the natural balance would again be restored at the back.
Midfield
Christian Atsu also injured himself in the game against Bournemouth and is likely to miss out. The match against the Red Devils will come too soon for Mikel Merino as well and he remains out. The race will be on between Jacob Murphy and Rolando Aarons to see who will win the battle for a left-wing berth with Murphy currently just edging ahead of his team-mate.
The midfield two will consist of Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden, both of whom will be looking to provide necessary cover to the back four. Matt Ritchie looks set to start at the right wing and will be looking to provide the ammunition for Perez and Joselu to exploit.
Attack
Ayoze Perez is likely to return and slot in behind the physical, Joselu in the final third. Both players have the knack of scoring important goals in big matches so the Toon Army will be hoping that they continue to do that on Saturday.
