Real Madrid is not having the best of seasons this term, as it is seen. Following an impressive Champions League and La Liga triumph last season, Real Madrid head boss Zinedine Zidane became the first coach to win back to back CL since it was renamed more than two decades ago.
Despite all his success, however, the former French International might soon face the axe if he fails to turn it around for Real Madrid soon enough. But as Real Madrid remain poised about sacking Zidane, here are three replacements Los Blancos could pursuit, should they decide to show Zidane the exit door.
Thomas Tuchel
Tuchel could an exciting choice for Los Merengues. The German mastermind was sacked by Borussia Dortmund at the end of the last season, after falling out with the board and few of the key players in the team, including Marcel Schmelzer and Nuri Sahin.
However, during his time at Dortmund, the Black and Yellows had one of the most promising eras in the club’s history. Tuchel guided them to a best-ever runner-up finish in the history of the Bundesliga in his debut season and followed that up with a DFB Cup triumph in his second season.
Unlike Zidane, Tuchel prefers the more passive version of football and puts far more emphasis on positional sense and most importantly, he is not afraid to change his tactics even during a match.
Carlo Ancelotti
Although it might be a little unexpected for Ancelotti to return to Real Madrid, the former AC Milan boss is by far the most experienced and successful managers available in the current market. Ancelotti managed Real Madrid from 2013-2015, where he guided Real Madrid to their iconic La Decima triumph back in 2014.
The Italian gaffer was most recently sacked by Bayern Munich, following a dismal start to the season. Although he may not be the most tactically astute manager in the world, Ancelotti’s experience in managing a top club as well as his ability to motivate players is what makes him a real contender for the job.
Mauricio Pochettino
By far the best option on this list and also the most logical one, Mauricio Pochettino is highly expected to the righteous heir of Zinedine Zidane, should the Frenchman gets sacked at the end of this season.
As the Tottenham Hotspur gaffer, Mauricio Pochettino has done an excellent job since taking charge of the club in 2014. Aside from bringing back Spurs’ former glory, the Argentinian mastermind also managed to make a group of consistent performers week in week out.
45-year-old Pochettino has every quality necessary in order to thrive as a Real Madrid. He has a brilliant tactical mind, which has helped Spurs regain their former glory in the Premier League. But it’s his ability nurture young talents, which craves the most attention.
Made no mistake, Mauricio Pochettino is the best manager Real Madrid can hire, in order to fill the shoes of Zinedine Zidane.
