Mauricio Pochettino’s men have surely lost some of their spark recently and have dropped into the sixth place in the points table. They have a run of tough fixtures before the turn of the year and the manager will need his side to get over them with minimal damage. Spurs have a chance of improving their options in the January transfer window and it should not be a surprise if Pochettino decides to spend on a top-class player, maybe even for the first team.
There are a number of star players, constantly linked with a move to the club and here are three such players who can make an immediate impact at the club:
Cenk Tosun (Besiktas):
Arguably the hottest property in the transfer market in January, Tosun is wanted by atleast 10 clubs around Europe. Spurs are probably the most high-profile club showing interest in him as Pochettino is in desperate search of a backup for Harry Kane. Fernando Llorente has not been able add goals to the side and Tosun, who might be a tad expensive in January, can solve this problem for the long term. At just 26, he is still to reach his peak but has been in devastating form and Pochettino should go all in for his services in January.
Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace):
The former Manchester United man is easily one of the best players for Palace in the last couple of seasons. He has not been at his consistent best this season but with the troubles with the squad at the Selhurst Park, he might be tempted to quit the club in January. Spurs have been scouting for him extensively since the start of the year but the Eagles were adamant to sell but with him turning into a necessity, Daniel Levy might sanction the sale, which can help the Whites improve their quality in the attack.
Ross Barkley (Everton):
The English midfielder is one of the most versatile players in the league at the moment and is a long-term transfer target for Spurs. He was close to a move to London in the summer but an injury meant that he stayed back at the Goodison Park. However, he is expected to be back to training before January and could be up for sale yet again. Everton may have a new manager at that time but with Barkley’s contract running out, the Toffees might be forced to sell mid-way through the season, which will give Spurs an opportunity to bag him.
