The North London Derby has always been a hotly-contested affair. Tempers have flown in abundance every time the two sides have met and the clashes have always produced plenty of sparks. However, amidst all the turmoil and heat of the battle, the quality of football has not suffered.
Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have consistently displayed top quality football when playing these matches. Wondrous goals like Danny Rose’s incredible screamer from 35 yards out or Harry Kane’s impossible curling shot from a narrow-angle outside the box or be it Sanchez leaving defenders flat-footed before curling one in the far corner; there is enough quality on the pitch to get the crowd from both sides on their feet.
Here is a look at the three players who can stand out for their team in this weekend’s clash.
Harry Kane
Tottenham Hotspur are more than proud of this goal machine. The England international has already won two consecutive Golden Boots just at the age of 24. Since returning from Leicester City, where he was on loan, at the end of 2013-14 season, Kane has gone on to score over 100 goals in just over 150 appearances for club and country, winning several individual accolades in the process. The Tottenham man is in dazzling form after scoring 13 goals in the month of September.
Kane’s overall game allows him to contribute much more than just goals. His strength in the air, off the ball movement, physicality, and the ability to shoot with either foot makes him a daunting prospect. With his habit of rising to the occasion, it will not be surprising to see Kane pull this one off for Spurs.
Alexis Sanchez
The Chilean has been in the cream of his career for the last couple of seasons inspiring Arsenal to wins that seemed difficult without him. The versatile Chilean winger can play on either wing or as a centre-forward if required be. His quick feet, coupled with his ability to take on defenders and leave nothing for them has made him nearly unstoppable for opposition defenders.
He is a natural goal-scoring threat and after having made a quiet start to the new season, he will want to announce his arrival by standing out in the Tottenham game.
Christian Eriksen
The Danish playmaker has been the club’s most efficient yet underrated player. He pulls the strings in every attack and has the unique ability to find the net from long distances, as was evident in the outrageous hat-trick he scored against Ireland to help Denmark qualify for the FIFA World Cup. All three were from outside the box and more importantly, unstoppable.
The North London derby seems to be the perfect platform for Eriksen to repeat his international heroics.
