Liverpool have a host of young talent buzzing around the club. Let us take a look at a few of the prospects who will do better if they were sent out on loan instead of stagnating at the club.
Marko Grujic
Dubbed as the “new Nemanja Matic” for his tall, commanding figure and his quiet yet effective presence on the pitch, Grujic is one player who is still waiting to kick off his career at Liverpool. He was convinced personally by Klopp’s call to snub other clubs in favour of Liverpool.
The 21-year joined Liverpool during the 2015-16 season and the box to box midfielder was sent back on loan for the rest of the season and had to wait till the next season to make his Liverpool. Since then, he has only played 12 games for the club. Sitting on the bench week in week out has hampered his progress and is perhaps deserving of more game time, given the fact that he adds certain steel to any midfield and along with his good range of passing, can be an asset to the any attack.
It would be wise for the Reds to send him out on loan for the time being. They are loaded in midfield for the season and will not be relying on Grujic any time this season.
Benjamin Woodburn
Liverpool’s 18-year old wonderkid has come into the limelight on the big stage and is grabbing attention with his impressive progress. Liverpool’s youngest ever goalscorer has made his little chances count and has already broken into the national team set-up.
His meteoric rise has also drawn praise from both his national team manager Chris Coleman and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp. The 18-year old will want regular game time now be it under Klopp’s tutelage or somewhere else. It will see the Welshman develop rather rapidly and help him cash in on his current confidence. Since first team chances are hard to come by at Anfield, Klopp would be smart to loan him out and bring him back later as a developed star to Liverpool.
Dominic Solanke
The 2017 under-20 World Cup winner switched clubs in the summer after growing frustrated at Chelsea. The Chelsea youth product who impressed largely in the summer and made the headlines by winning the Golden Ball in the u-20 World Cup has been considered a bright potential for England.
Solanke left Chelsea for Liverpool in search of more game time and although under Klopp the forward has been given comparatively more time than he was at Chelsea, it is far from what is necessary for Solanke. He has clocked a total 194 minutes of action this season and is yet to find the back of the net for the Reds. It would be suitable for both the club and the player to send Solanke out on loan for just one more season where he can grow and prove his potential.
Coming off the bench after 75 minutes for every match is not ideal for a striker’s growth as his game then depends very much on the team’s scoreline rather than his own style of play.
