Chelsea are popular for their loan system which sees over 30 players out on loan at present.
Their players feature in the first to the sixth tier of English football, along with the Eredivisie and the Russian Premier League. A total of 34 Chelsea players are presently away on loan.
If Chelsea are to win big leagues in the future, they need to focus on their young players and give them a chance to show their skills at the top level, which most of them possess.
Here are a few players Chelsea could call back in January to fill up spaces :
1. Kurt Zouma
As a powerful young centre-back, he is capable of keeping the goal safe from rival invasion due to his coordination and high rate of successful tackles. He started his career at St. Etienne at the age of 16. He has also contributed with goals for them, 4 in total, out of 73 appearances. On the January transfer deadline day in 2014, Chelsea signed him for £12 million. He made 71 appearances for the champions before being loaned out to Stoke City.
He can read the game pretty well and is a threat in the opposition box due to his aerial abilities. The Frenchman times his tackles efficiently and is a fine man-marker. With David Luiz in trouble and Gary Cahill in his 30’s, Zouma needs to be called back, not only for this season but for the future plans as well. Zouma can also play as a right back and a holding midfielder.
2. Ruben Loftus-Cheek
Loftus-Cheek started his career at Chelsea in 2004 and has been frequently in and out of the side. After spending 10 years at the youth level, he made his debut in December 2014. He has looked as a bright prospect since then. With 2 goals to his name, the England U-21 international is a gifted box-to-box midfielder. He can make good runs into the box, is strong at link-up play, providing freedom to the wingers and forwards.
Defensively too, he adds a lot as he can fall back deeper into his position. His departure might surely be a reason for Chelsea’s regrets this season. With a number of injuries to their midfielders, he could have added quality to the side.
3. Tammy Abraham
Another one who Conte would love to have back. The Italian doesn’t have too much faith in Batshuayi and has been looking for a reinforcement to complement Morata. If Abraham was at Chelsea, given his current show for Swansea City, he could have started over Batshuayi. He is tall, quick and explosive in the opposition box. He too has been Chelsea to the core, right from his childhood.
The Englishman hit the ground running at Bristol City, where he scored 26 goals in 48 appearances in the last term on loan. The youngster already has 5 goals for Swansea City so far and has received an England call-up. Towards the business end of the season, it is important to have one extra striker apart from the usual two for Chelsea. Hence, Abraham must be called back in January.
