Liverpool midfielder, Marko Grujic is seeking first-team football after having failed to make a Premier League start for Liverpool this season. However, he wants to remain in England and not repeat the mistakes made by Lazar Markovic. The Liverpool Echo has claimed that his agent has suggested that he will look to go out on a loan deal in the January transfer window but plans to stay in England in search of more game time.
Grujic is represented by ex-sports director of Red Star Belgrade, Zoran Stojadinovic. In an interview with Serbian newspaper Blic, he said that his client “needed to go somewhere he will play” but doesn’t want him to adapt to a new footballing culture by moving out of the country.
Mr. Stojadinovic said, “Grujic has to go somewhere in January in a loan, in the team where he will play. It must be an English club, so as not to make a mistake like Lazar Markovic did.”
“Had Lazar been my client, I would never advise him to leave England. He changed the country, the style of football, the temperament, the climate, and therefore his return to Liverpool was an impossible mission.”
“To return to Grujic, he is very much appreciated in Liverpool and therefore he did not go anywhere because they did not want to let him go. But he needs more minutes in the field and that’s why the loan is the best solution for him in January to return to Liverpool after his return to the starting line.”
The 21-year-old has just started in one game for Liverpool this season when the Reds were knocked out of the Carabao Cup in a 2-0 defeat at Leicester City. The Serbian has also made appearances from the bench against Hoffenheim, Arsenal, Spurs and Maribor so far this season.
The former Red Star Belgrade player has also represented the Liverpool U-23 team four times this season and put in some good performances for Neil Critchley’s men. He made a comeback to the Serbian national team for a friendly against China recently. However, the midfielder was just an unused substitute on the day. Marko Grujic joined the Reds from Red Star Belgrade for £5.1m in 2016 but has failed to make an impact at Anfield so far.
The Serbian midfielder has been subject to a lack of playing time this season and so he will definitely benefit from going out on loan in January and getting some much needed regular first-team experience under his belt.
It remains to be seen if any Premier League clubs are interested in securing his services on loan. He may deserve more game time at Anfield, especially with the team struggling in the midfield but Grujic will surely have more exposure out on loan.
