Swansea City’s season has only become tougher as Paul Clement’s side have managed to win just two games so far. Consecutive losses against Leicester City and Arsenal have already started to ask questions of Clement’s credibility and any further hiccups could worsen their chances in the top flight.
According to reports, Swansea City are interested in Groningen striker Mimoun Mahi. The Swans have reportedly been tracking the player for a while and now, they are convinced he is the right man to boost the club’s chances in near future.
Mahi’s ability at such a young age has been the main reason why clubs are lining up for him. The 23-year-old has an impressive goals scoring record and his tentatively low price has made him a viable option for many.
The Dutch club have slapped a price tag of £2m on the player and in this inflated market, he is a bargain buy. Swansea lost Fernando Llorente to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer but failed to replace the veteran Spaniard. Tammy Abraham has been the main source of goals for the Wales side but the youngster is scheduled to be back to his parent club Chelsea, so Clement needs to bring a solid goal scorer, for the future, to the Liberty Stadium.
Mahi hailed from Holland but he switched his allegiance to Morocco as his parents are from that country. Swansea are not alone as Stoke City, Bristol City and Nottingham Forest are also ready to offer the player a lucrative contract.
The attacker can be positioned across the front three and can operate from the middle of the pitch also. He has already enlightened the Eredivisie this season as he has found the back of the net a staggering five times.
Mahi’s existing contract is scheduled to expire in 2019 but the Dutch club is not trying to complicate things and might even welcome any move for the player. They are compelled to entertain any bid in the excess of £2m and Swansea might be looking at this opportunity to grab the player.
Clement has promoted a number of young players to the starting lineup and Mahi could follow the suit. The manager needs a marquee signing to lift his side and Mahi could be the one. He racked up 17 goals last season and given his current form, he could well surpass the tally this season.
Clement needs some sort of inspiration in the attacking section and Mahi’s arrival would be of much help for the gaffer. But is he the right man for the Swans?
