There has been a spree of sacking managers in the Premier League and West Ham United could soon join the race. The Hammers are hovering around the relegation zone and Slaven Bilic’s position at the club is currently tilting towards the wrong side.
The Croatian seemed to have won the confidence of the Hammers board as West Ham put a very strong performance in the last few matches until the last match. A battering against newbie Brighton & Hove Albion has dented all hopes and the club hierarchy is now planning for an alternate solution to him.
According to reports, West Ham are interested in former Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini and are ready to approach him formally. The Chilean is currently managing Chinese Super League side Hebel China Fortune.
Leicester City, Crystal Palace and Everton have already seen their managers departing from the club but the Hammers don’t want to rush things. Barring Palace, the other clubs are yet to decide on their future course of action and West Ham want to keep things in their hand.
The Hammers have managed just two wins so far this season and are currently in the 16th place in the Premier League table. If they fail to get the better of Crystal Palace in the next match, they might drop down to the relegation zone.
Palace hierarchy had a meeting on the future of Bilic and the Croatian manager has very little time to save his job. Palace have already chalked down a list of managers which also includes Terriers manager David Wagner and another former Man City manager Roberto Mancini.
Pellegrini is in high demand and Leicester are also reportedly looking to tap him up for their vacant managerial position. The veteran gaffer would love to have another shot in the Premier League but his lucrative contract with the Chinese club could be a hindrance in his move.
Pellegrini brought in a sea change during his tenure at the Etihad Stadium and won the Premier League for the Sky Blues. He also has two League Cups to his credits so it would be a good bet to bring someone in who is well acquainted with the climate and conditions of the Premier League.
Bilic is in his final season and that could play an important role as the Club hierarchy would want him to honour his contract. But if the situation doesn’t improve, they might have to take the call. But is Pellegrini the right man for West Ham?
