Watford have been quite impressive under the stewardship of Marco Silva and are tipped to be the surprise package this season. The Hornets have been exceptional as Silva has done wonders with the limited resources at his disposal.
Barring the defeat at the hand of Manchester City, Watford looked a completely changed side and are expected to trouble to the big guns in the top tier. Silva is likely to explore more options in the January transfer window and has been linked with Manchester United starlet Dean Henderson.
Goalkeeping situation remains a concern for the gaffer. He brought in Daniel Bachmann on a free transfer from Stoke City and also signed Orestis Karnezis on a season-long loan.
But none of them has been able to get into the first team as Silva has had to rely on 36-year-old Heurelho Gomes. Gomes has been exceptional with his reflexes and antics in the goal but he is in the twilight of his career, which is a massive concern for the club. Karnezis is also scheduled to leave at the end of this season so Silva needs to be ready with a backup plan.
Henderson is currently on loan at Shrewsbury Town and has been pretty impressed with his displays and could be that plan.
His contract with Manchester United is also scheduled to expire at the end of this season and talks of a renewal are only been delayed. The Red Devils have offered him improved terms to stay at the club but he is pondering all options at his disposal.
So there is scope for Watford to rope in the player on a free transfer. The 20-year-old is very highly regarded at the Old Trafford but at least for the next two years, he will be behind David De Gea and Sergio Romero, who are in the hot seat at the Old Trafford.
Henderson featured in the U20 World Cup donning the England jersey last year and is tipped to be the future after Joe Hart and Tom Heaton. He came through the ranks of Manchester United but despite having all the quality, he has failed to cement a place in the starting lineup.
A number of clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea are also monitoring his situations and a bidding war is expected in January. Marco Silva does have the convincing power to attract big names and it would be a big coup if he manages to bring the player to Vicarage Road. But is Henderson worth all the fuss?
