Tottenham Hotspur has impressed England and the world with their desire and sensational football but a loss to West Ham midweek must have been a dent in their confidence. The loss of Harry Kane too, due to an injury, meant that they had to pull off a terrific performance yet again to beat Jose and Manchester United. After matching the host’s toe to toe, they succumbed late to a goal from Anthony Martial. This loss must have been a painful one for the whole team. Here’s how the Lilywhites have been rated:-
GK: Hugo Lloris – 6.5/10
Came off his line on crucial occasions to clear the ball for his side and he was alert as always. He couldn’t do anything to save his team from Martial’s finish though as his defence let him down.
RWB: Serge Aurier – 4/10
After a few impressive displays, he put up a bad show today and he was inferior to Ashley Young for much of the game. Disappointing.
CB: Toby Alderweireld – 7/10
He was having a brilliant game until Martial’s goal. He actually defended really well to keep Rashford’s efforts at bay and aerially too he didn’t give Lukaku or anyone a chance.
CB: Eric Dier – 6/10
His pace was impressive at times but he got caught badly for the decisive goal. Neat and tidy otherwise.
CB: Jan Vertonghen – 6/10
He was constantly pressed by United and he didn’t get the freedom to work on the ball like he usually does. Composed on most occasions while defending but the end result wouldn’t reflect that. Sadly, his team did concede.
LWB: Ben Davies – 3/10
Kept in check by Valencia and hardly noticeable apart from this.
CM: Moussa Sissoko – 5/10
He was at the centre of things during the first half and he did cause a little bit of trouble but it was nothing extraordinary as such. Kept in check by Matic.
CM: Harry Winks – 4.5/10
Showed clever footwork during some minutes of the game but he was overwhelmed fully by Matic and Herrera in the second half.
LM: Dele Alli – 3/10
Missed a glorious chance to score from Eriksen’s delivery and he dived horrendously. He got involved in things be didn’t need to.
M: Christian Eriksen – 5/10
Provided the best chance of the game for Spurs. He was average apart from that.
FW: Son – 4/10
Failed to have the desired impact and he was substituted during the one hour mark.
Substitutes:-
FW: Fernando Llorente – 5/10
He did not get the right service and thus he couldn’t make a difference in the game.
CM: Moussa Dembele – 5.5/10
He was in the thick of things and was a nuisance for Herrera. Decent otherwise and Spurs can expect much from him when they host Real Madrid.
